Pignon is a city of about 42,000 people and is on the “main road" (tr 3), from Port au Prince (PAP) to Cap Haitian. It is about a four-hour drive from either point. Since it is at higher altitude it is a little cooler than the PAP area. The highway, actually more like a road, is mostly unpaved and without bridges at most of the river crossings which creates limited access to some of the areas we need to travel to during the rainy season.

Presently there is no gas station in town and one must
travel
to the town of Hinge, which is about a 45-minute drive, just to
fill a vehicle with gas;  or one might be able to buy some fuel
from someone who sells a few gallons in the street.
